Naloxone & Opioid Overdose Response – London, ON

🩺 What is Naloxone?

Naloxone (also known as Narcan®) is a safe, fast-acting medication that can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. It has no effect if opioids are not in the system, and it is not addictive.

🚨 Signs of an Opioid Overdose

Call 911 immediately if you notice:

  • Slow, weak, or no breathing

  • Blue or grey lips and fingernails

  • Pinpoint pupils

  • Cold, clammy skin

  • Unresponsive, cannot be woken up

💉 How to Use Naloxone

  1. Call 911 right away.

  2. Give Naloxone:

    • Peel open the package

    • Place the nozzle tip into one nostril

    • Press the plunger firmly

  3. Start CPR if trained (30 compressions, 2 breaths).

  4. If no response in 2–3 minutes, give a second dose in the other nostril.

  5. Stay with the person until help arrives.

Good Samaritan laws in Ontario protect you from legal consequences if you help during an overdose.
